I love taking photos and while I certainly appreciate purism, I also love playing with Photoshop and “colouring” my photos. It’s more like painting, and you can really get some beautiful effects.

This is my favorite tutorial on how to paint your photographs with Photoshop – Blurbomat’s How to Turn an Ordinary Photo Into an Extraordinary Photo.

Since I’ve found this tutorial, playing with blends in layers mode has become one of my favourite hobbies. Some people will do crossword puzzles, but I want to see what will happen to my photos when I  “blur and multiply” a photo.

The above photo was taken from Signal Hill in St. John’s last October and I liked the effect so much I used it in my header for my new moving to Newfoundland blog, HelloNewfoundand.com.

This entry was inspired by talking to Newfoundland photographer Ken Holden outside The Ship pub who just bought Photoshop and who has many hours of Photoshop fun ahead of him. And a special sorry to Ken’s friend who was probably bored stiff while we talked about layers and contrasts.
